Jesus dies on the cross

Now there was a man named Joseph, from the Jewish town of Arimathea. He was a member of the council, a good and righteous man, who had not consented to their decision and action; and he was looking for the kingdom of God. This man went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. Then he took it down and wrapped it in a linen shroud and laid him in a tomb cut in stone, where no one had ever yet been laid. It was the day of Preparation, and the Sabbath was beginning.

(Luke 23:50-54)

We all hold on to things that we don’t need to that weigh us down.  Different sins that either we think God can’t or won’t forgive, or things that we don’t want to let go of.  No matter the reason, this is not the way God wants us to live our lives.  When Jesus died on the cross, He died as the perfect sacrifice to take away all of our sins.  This was a once and for all sacrifice because God doesn’t ever want us to live with the weight of our sins.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”

(Matthew 11:28)

As you contemplate Jesus’ words in Matthew 11 and the sacrifice on the cross, look at the list of sins that we hold on to. Pick as many as you would like and look up the verses next to them.Once you’ve found what you most strongly hold on to, use a marker to write that down on one of the black stones.Once you’ve done that, pray over your stone, asking God to forgive you of your sin, and to take away the burden of carrying it.Then give it up to God by placing it in the basket.Cast your sins upon Jesus, receive the forgiveness He offers in His death, and leave refreshed and unburdened.
