Jesus is crucified

So they took Jesus, and he went out, bearing his own cross, to the place called The Place of a Skull, which in Aramaic is called Golgotha. There they crucified him, and with him two others, one on either side, and Jesus between them. Pilate also wrote an inscription and put it on the cross. It read, “Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews.”

(John 19:16-19)

Crucifixion is a very nasty thing.  We’ve seen depictions of this in paintings, in words, and in movies.  It is beyond incredible that Jesus would go to the cross for us.  The price for our sins is death, and Jesus paid that price for us.  It was our sins that put Him on the cross.

As you reflect on this, pick up one of the nails.  Holding on to your nail, go to God in a time of silent confession, lifting up to him the ways in which you sin through your actions, words and thoughts.  Thank God for not giving you what you deserve, but giving you grace instead.

Now as you get ready to move on and receive communion, take a slip of paper and write, “It was my sins that put Jesus on the cross,” and sign your name.  Now nail it to the cross and move on to the next station.
